US Air Strike Kills Three Civilians in Eastern Afghanistan

(April 15, 2014) -- An overnight US air strike against the Khost Province in eastern Afghanistan has killed three civilians, a woman and her two children. It also injured the father of the children.

NATO said it was aware of the reports of the incident and is looking into it. There were no previous statements surrounding the air strike, which is unusual for Afghanistan attacks.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai was quick to condemn the incident, saying it was a violation of existing agreements between the US and Afghanistan, and called on Khost's governor to investigate the circumstances of the attack.

Though US air strikes killing civilians are not unusual in Afghanistan, it is odd for them to not include any preemptive claim of "insurgents" killed in the attack or troops coming under fire when such a strike destroys a home.

(April 15 2014) -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai strongly condemned the US airstrike in eastern Khost province of Afghanistan, which left at least three civilians dead.

Local authorities in eastern Khost province said at least three civilians including a woman and two children were killed in the airstrike.

The officials further added that the airstrike was carried out in Nader Shah Kot district on Monday night.

The victims of the incident were members of a single family, the officials said, adding that the father of the children was injured following the airstrike.

President Karzai quoted in a statement issued by Presidential Palace media office said that the airstrike by US forces was a violation of the agreement between the two nations.
