Trump Wants sto Silence You

Trump Wants to Silence You
Common Cause

(April 25, 2025) — Donald Trump is trying to silence you. He’s sending his Attorney General after ActBlue — the donation site that thousands of candidates and organizations like Common Cause use to fund their work with small-dollar, grassroots donations.

Why? Because he doesn’t like where the money is going.

You see, Trump is totally fine with billionaires like Elon Musk spending millions to help him get elected. He says nothing when oil companies bankroll efforts to block climate action, or when the gun lobby spends big to gut public safety laws.

But when an ordinary person chips in $10 to a candidate or group they support, and the cause they’re giving to is something Donald Trump doesn’t like? Suddenly, he’s willing to mobilize the entire federal government to shut it down.

Let’s be clear: this is the latest in a long line of abuse aimed at silencing his political enemies. This is a classic Trump move: claim he’s defending the integrity of our democracy — while in reality, he’s trying to shred it for his own political gain.

If you care about fair elections, transparency, or accountability, that should terrify you.

Trump isn’t just trying to win elections. He’s trying to silence and punish anyone who stands in his way. That includes Common Cause. And that includes you, too.

At Common Cause, we fight for a democracy that works for everyone. Every time someone chips in through ActBlue, it helps us run election protection programs, challenge attacks on our freedom to vote, and take on powerful politicians trying to rig the system.

That’s the power Trump is trying to kill.

So if we don’t speak out now, we risk setting a dangerous precedent: that presidents can silence dissent and tear at the fabric of our democracy just because they don’t like being challenged.

We’ve done it before. And we’ll do it again. But only if we stand together.

Common Cause led the way in calling for Elon Musk’s removal from our government. And after tens of thousands of you took action — by calling your representatives, signing petitions, and helping us plaster our message coast to coast, it was announced that Elon Musk will be stepping down from his role in May. [1]

Common Cause has been fighting to rein in the influence of big money in politics for over 50 years — so our government works for everyone, not just the wealthy and well-connected. We’re not backing down now.

This is a dangerous moment. But it’s also a chance to remind Trump — and the entire country—that this movement is bigger than one man and stronger than any presidential action.

Thanks for sticking with us,
the Team at Common Cause

Trump Targets ActBlue
Democratic National Committee

(April 25, 2025) — Yesterday, Trump issued a memorandum targeting ActBlue, the platform that the DNC and many other campaigns and organizations use to collect contributions from supporters like you.

This is a blatant power grab designed to undermine democratic participation. It’s a gross attempt to make it harder for Americans to make their voices heard — designed to stamp out the voices of grassroots supporters and further empower the corrupt billionaires who control the Trump administration.

Simply put, it’s a direct attack on people who support Democrats’ work.

Billionaires are already running our government, and now they’re trying to get rid of tools that empower millions of grassroots donors to pitch in $5 or $10 at a time to help support Democrats across the country.

Here’s the truth: Trump is panicking. His poll numbers are plummeting, he’s driving the economy off a cliff, and he sees Democrats gaining momentum. He’s scared about losing Congress next year — and losing his power — so he’s rigging the system. But we won’t be intimidated. We won’t be silenced.

We’re fighting back against this abuse of power at every turn — and millions of Americans are coming together to organize and fight back against Trump and his dangerous MAGA extremism.
