“A Second Nakba Is Unfolding”

(May 29, 2025) — Soumaya Ghannoushi, a British-Tunisian writer and expert in Middle East politics, denounces the killing of nine out of ten children of Palestinian doctor Alaa al-Najjar and the wounding of her husband and only surviving child in an Israeli strike on their home.

Ghannoushi defines Israel’s ongoing war on Gaza as a “Nakba lit by the glow of screens” and examines it as an evolution of the 1948 Nakba in which “The same machinery of erasure [is] refined, modernised, militarised, and live-streamed.”
