ACTION ALERT: Stop Trump, Save FEMA,
Save Disaster Relief and Weather Services

Sierra Club

(September 1, 2025) — Unnatural disasters are harming the people we care about and the places we call home. Extreme weather is accelerating in frequency and severity: We’re seeing record-breaking temperatures, more dangerous flooding, and stronger storms.

And yet, the Trump administration wants to defund and eliminate essential programs, resources, and staffing that help us prepare, respond and recover from disasters:  the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) including the National Weather Service (NWS).

For nearly 50 years, FEMA has been on the front lines of major disasters. The agency helps to coordinate the recovery and rebuild our communities, ensuring emergency relief reaches those who need it most. Like FEMA, the NWS plays a critical role in keeping our communities safe by coordinating essential information between weather forecasters, emergency managers and the public.

As extreme weather events become more frequent and severe, we should be investing in disaster preparedness and response, not dismantling it. And the majority of Americans agree — 79 percent of US adults are more concerned about our government’s ability to respond to climate disasters if FEMA and NOAA services are cut. (source)

But with enough public outcry, we can pressure the administration to stop axing critical weather prediction and disaster aid programs.

Earlier this year, Trump announced he would eliminate FEMA after this hurricane season. Public pressure after the Texas floods forced him to back off — for now. And thanks to the advocacy of people like you, cuts to the NWS were removed from the proposed budget Trump sent to Congress.

🚨 Will you take action now to demand Trump protect federal agencies, like FEMA, NOAA, and NWS, that help millions of Americans each year?
