9/11: Still Asking Why
M. Sharon Abreu
(September 11, 2025) — 24 years ago today, our world changed in so many ways. Our country changed, and not in a good way. Our experiences changed from fairly normal to much more anxiety-ridden. This is always a hard day for me.
The 9/11 attacks, as terrifying, tragic and destructive as they were, were used as the excuse for our government and military to wreak havoc on other sovereign countries, not the least of which was Iraq, which posed no threat to us, to ratchet up our military in a massive way, and to erode our rights as American citizens, including invading our privacy, all so cynically in the name of “freedom”. We were intentionally lied into attacking that country.
The U.S. military budget is HUGE and will probably get even bigger, which is what Pete Hegseth is pushing for.
A friend of mine lost his brother and sister-in-law (who was 7 months pregnant) when the WTC came down. I had already left Brooklyn and moved out to Washington State earlier in the year, and a friend called me that morning to tell me to turn on my television — that something terrible was happening in New York. When I realized that the towers were actually going down in a gray cloud of highly toxic smoke, I had this thought: “Here we go.”
Here’s “Still Asking Why” the song I wrote to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks:
I’m grateful that Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth is still pushing for answers and a real, independent investigation.
