(Septemer 25, 2025) — Win Without War is racing to push Trump off the path toward a new endless cycle of violence and devastation — this time in Latin America.
Over the weekend, we asked activists like you to contact your senators demanding they pass a War Powers Resolution (WPR) to reassert congressional authority amidst multiple lethal and likely illegal strikes on boats in the Carbbean. More than 12,000 of you heeded the call — thank you.
Now, Rep. Ilhan Omar has just given us another opportunity to stop Trump’s needless, lawless violence, introducing a WPR in the House.
Champions in both chambers are stepping up to do their part. It’s a critical start, but it’ll take more work to rein in the Trump administration. That means it’s our turn to pick up the mantle and rally lawmakers to reassert that Congress, NOT the president, decides if and when the United States goes to war.
Here’s a recap: Over the past few weeks, the Trump administration has announced THREE lethal U.S. strikes on boats in the Caribbean — ALL without authorization from Congress, without legal justification, and likely in violation of both U.S. and international laws.[1]
Don’t take it from us — according to Politico, even former GOP officials are worried Trump’s strikes aren’t legal. That includes experts like John Yoo, who infamously wrote the “torture memos” legally justifying the horrendous treatment of detainees at Guantanamo Bay, and proved willing to stretch the definitions of the rule of law to a dangerous breaking point.[2]
It’s not a partisan, controversial position to call Trump’s strikes what they are: illegal. Now, Congress must step in as the check the Constitution intended.
Rep. Omar’s WPR is a prime opportunity to do just that.
Let’s send a resounding message to every Representative: we, the people, don’t want another endless war. We want this unauthorized, unjustified violence to end.
No matter how hard he tries, Trump won’t rewrite the Constitution, trample the courts, or abduct our community members without people like us protesting his actions at every step.
But each and every time we pressure our members of Congress, we’re showing up for our values, reminding them we’re paying attention, and holding them accountable. That’s not all – with every petition signature, phone call, and protest, we’re ALSO creating the political space our decision-makers need to be bolder and work harder at building the safer, more sustainable future we all want and deserve.
