True Majority has collected 49,000 signatures. Democrats.com and AfterDowningStreet have collected an additional 28,000 signatures in support of impeaching the Vice President.

And Impeach for Peace has brought together thousands of hand-written memorials, in accordance with the rules of the Jefferson Manual, from individuals around the country urging the impeachment of Dick Cheney.

Representatives from several of these organizations will take part in Thursday’s event.

Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin (D., Wisconsin) and Congressman Donald Payne (D., N.J.) have signed on as cosponsors of H. Res. 333, a bill proposing articles of impeachment against Vice President Dick Cheney, according to Congressman Dennis Kucinich’s office. Kucinich is the original sponsor of the bill.

Baldwin is the fourth member of the House Judiciary Committee to have added her name to the bill. A fifth Judiciary Committee member, Steve Cohen, has thus far signed on only to a bill proposing the impeachment of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales.

H Res 333 cosponsors include, in addition to Baldwin, Payne, and Kucinich: Jan Schakowsky, Maxine Waters, Hank Johnson, Keith Ellison, Lynn Woolsey, Barbara Lee, Albert Wynn, William Lacy Clay, Yvette Clarke, Jim McDermott, Jim Moran, Bob Filner, Sam Farr, Robert Brady.

That bill, H. Res. 589 sponsored by Congressman Jay Inslee, has 15 cosponsors in addition to Inslee: Xavier Becerra, Michael Arcuri, Ben Chandler, Dennis Moore, Bruce Braley, Tom Udall, Earl Blumenauer, Peter DeFazio, Hank Johnson, Steve Cohen, Keith Ellison, David Wu, Yvette Clarke, Darlene Hooley, Betty McCollum.

Johnson, Ellison, and Clarke are backing both bills.

Congressmen Jesse Jackson Jr. and Maurice Hinchey have recently said that they support the impeachment of Cheney and Bush, but have not yet signed onto any bills.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi has opposed impeachment since May 2006, but this week said that if she were not the Speaker she would probably be backing impeachment, and that impeachment of Gonzales is clearly merited.

Congressman Ed Towns Signs Onto H Res 333
Afterdowningstreet.org

Kim Hughes reports:

I just returned from a meeting with Ed Towns in Brooklyn, who agreed during the meeting to sign on to H Res 333. Made the call in front of us! The meeting was arranged my Mimi Evans of Military Families Speak Out. Mimi had to be away on business so asked us to represent her.

Our group consisted of The Rev. Dave Dyson of Lafayette Ave. Presby Church, the inimitable Dave Robinson (who was also instrumental in our meeting with Yvette Clarke when she signed H Res 333), and two members of Dyson’s church. More later, but wanted to report another small victory from the field!

That makes 20 Congress Members for impeaching Cheney and 28 for Gonzales.

H. Res. 333, Articles of Impeachment Against Dick Cheney, is sponsored by the following Members of Congress:

Jan Schakowsky, Maxine Waters, Hank Johnson, Keith Ellison, Lynn Woolsey, Barbara Lee, Albert Wynn, William Lacy Clay, Dennis Kucinich, Yvette Clarke, Jim McDermott, Jim Moran, Bob Filner, Sam Farr, Robert Brady, Tammy Baldwin, Donald Payne, Steve Cohen, Sheila Jackson Lee, Ed Towns.

Please thank them and encourage them to whip their colleagues. These Congress Members have recently said they support impeachment, but have not yet signed onto any bill: Jesse Jackson Jr., Maurice Hinchey. Please ask them to sign onto H Res 333 or introduce their own articles of impeachment. Talk is cheap.

S1. Ask your Congress Member to support impeachment proceedings against Cheney. Rep. Dennis Kucinich wants to put the name of everyone who supports Dick Cheney’s impeachment in the Congressional Record!

The Congressional Record is the official record of the proceedings and debates of the United States Congress. It is published daily when Congress is in session and is fully searchable. Every day that Congress is in session, Rep. Kucinich will submit 5 single-spaced pages of names with states, which is the daily limit under House rules.

To be included, all you need to do is submit this petition. (After you Email them, you might also want to send them a letter like this one.)

2. Ask members of the House Judiciary Committee and Speaker Nancy Pelosi.

3. Contact the media.

4. Contact the pollsters.

5. Print out postcards to mail to Congress Members. We have three versions in three formats contributed by three people. Use a simple PDF, or a simple Word doc, or, a two-sided card: front jpg, back jpg.

NB: IT IS NOT, NOT, NOT, ABSOLUTELY NOT H R 333. IT IS H RES 333.
