The Vice Guide to Everything
In this episode, we sneak into SOFEX, a trade show in the middle of Jordan where arms dealers sell the latest in killing technology to governments around the world — (“The Vice Guide To The Business of War”). Then, it’s off to Ghana to experience Sakawa — a crazy subculture that mixes cybercrime, sex and juju. When Americans recycle their computers, most of them end up in e-waste dumps in Ghana, where unemployed but enterprising youth hack into hard drives and run scams off the info left behind — all the while, being blessed by mystical juju priests — (“The Vice Guide To Sakawa Boys”). We trek to Colombia and get shot by the Bulletproof Tailor — a fashion designer who makes bulletproof, lightweight, Armani-like suits — (“The Vice Guide To The Bulletproof Tailor”). Finally, we see inside the scariest music scene in the world, Norwegian Black Metal, where some artists burn down churches and eat each others’ brains in (“The Vice Guide To Norwegian Black Metal”).

The 8th edition of the ever-growing SOFEX series will be held at the King Abdullah I Airbase in Amman in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. This niche event is held biennially under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Chairmanship of HRH Prince Feisal Bin Al Hussein and with the full support of the Jordan Armed Forces (JAF).
SOFEX 2010 is a four-day event that kicks off with a prominent one day conference that includes a series of comprehensive and topical seminars delivered by top military officials from around the world, tackling a wide range of issues pertinent to current counter terrorism and homeland security issues.
The SOFEX 2008 Conference “Adjusting Special Operations Forces’ Capabilities to Combat Global Terrorism” attracted over 750 participants consisting of high ranking military and government delegations representing 58 countries.
The prestigious list of speakers included Jordan’s Prime Minister/Minister of Defence on behalf of His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Royal Highness Prince Andrew of Great Britain, as well as presentations by 8 Special Operations Commanders from countries leading the way in Global Security.
SOFEX 2010 Exhibition is expected to surpass the record number of 12,000 participants, 319 Exhibiting Companies, 34 International Pavilions, 380 International Delegates and101 International Delegations headed by Ministers of Defence, Chiefs of Staff and Special Operations Commanders that attended SOFEX 2008 and the impressive $100 Million worth of deals signed at the event. Building on that outstanding success, SOFEX 2010 has already attracted a substantial amount of interest with many major national pavilions that have expressed their intent to expand their participation. The 70,000 m² of indoor and outdoor exhibition space will house exhibitors from all corners of the globe.
