US Whips Up War Fever
Aagainst Iran with Phony Report

(November 2011) — Under the cover of a bogus report by a United Nations agency, the US and its allies are laying the groundwork for a military attack on Iran. In order to counter this danger to humanity, the International Action Center would like to expose the perfidious role of the agency in question, the International Atomic Energy Agency. The IAEA is supposed to be a neutral investigator of nuclear development around the world. Instead, it has turned into a tool for imperialist aggression.

The IAEA report, released on Nov. 8, claims it shows that “Iran has carried out activities relevant to the development of a nuclear device.” (IAEA.org) The New York Times, a convinced enemy of the Iranian government claims the document presents “new evidence” and says the report constitutes “the harshest judgment that the has ever issued” with regards to the Iranian nuclear program. (Nov. 9)

Yukiya Amano, the current IAEA director, took over as the head of the UN agency from Mohamed ElBaradei, an Egyptian national, in 2009. Secret documents released by the Wikileaks organization reveal that US diplomats described Amano as “director general of all states, but in agreement with us.” (The Guardian, Nov. 30, 2010)

A Fraudulent Document from a Biased Agency
A close look at the latest IAEA report reveals that it presents no new evidence. Rather it is a biased rehash of old charges with very little factual support.

Robert Kelly, a nuclear scientist and a former director and inspector for the IAEA, had this to say of the report: “It’s very thin, I thought there would be a lot more there,” said Kelley about the most recent report. “It’s certainly old news; it’s really quite stunning how little new information is in there.”(Christian Science Monitor, Nov. 9)

Iran’s government denied all the charges. In a speech to thousands Shahr-e-Kord in central Iran, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, “This nation won’t retreat one iota from the path it is going,” adding, “Why are you ruining the prestige of the (U.N. nuclear) agency for absurd US claims?” (AP, Nov 9)

Washington and its allies are using the IAEA document to threaten all-out war. Weeks before the report was released, the US and Israel were already threatening a military strike as a direct response to the supposedly secret document.

The United States possesses over 10,000 nuclear weapons; Israel has an estimated 300. Iran has none. The US remains the only country in the world that has used nuclear weapons in a war. Both the US and Israel have a long history of invading and occupying other countries. Iran has no such record.

Thus it is logically preposterous to use such a report as a pretext for aggression against Iran, just as it was preposterous to use non-existent “weapons of mass destruction” as a pretext to invade Iraq. But that’s exactly what Washington did. And both Israel and the US are preparing for such a war with Iran now.

Beginning in late October, Israeli media began widely speculating that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was heavily lobbying for military strikes against Iran’s nuclear sites. On Nov.2, Israel test-fired a missile said to be capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and reaching Iranian territory.

Britain and the US reportedly stepped up contingency planning for potential military action against Iran.

In addition to the Big Lie about Iranian nuclear weapons, Washington made allegations of a “Iranian plot” to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States, based on the statements of a highly questionable US informant. Meanwhile, the Pentagon was hard at work strengthening its military alliance with Persian Gulf states, which together with US-occupied Iraq and Afghanistan, form a military semi-circle around Iran.

To resist the efforts of US imperialism and Zionism to foment war with Iran, the International Action Center condemns the US propaganda aimed at providing pretexts for aggression. We hope that people around the world will join us in this effort.

TELL OBAMA AND CONGRESS:
STOP THE WAR ON IRAN BEFORE IT STARTS!

Please send emails to President Obama, Vice President Biden, Secretary of State Clinton, U.N. Secretary-General Ban, Congressional leaders and the media demanding NO WAR ON IRAN!

Sample Text (Feel free to personalize your message):

President Obama, Vice President Biden, Secretary Clinton, Secretary Gates, Secretary General Ban, Senators and Representatives,

It is with grave concern that I observe the growing threat of a new US war–this time against the people of Iran.

I demand an immediate end to the US false fabrication campaign alleging Iranian government involvement in a plot to assassinate the Saudi ambassador in Washington. It is nothing but an attempt to whip up a war frenzy against Iran, at a time when masses of people around the globe and right here at home are taking to the streets to demand an end to war and austerity and that the trillions spent on wars of destruction be brought back home and used for human needs.

For years, the media is filled with reports of an alleged nuclear threat posed by Iran and the assumed need for the US to take military action. These reports recall the “Weapons of Mass Destruction” stories issued during the Bush Administration in the months leading up to the war on Iraq.

In the lead up to the illegal invasion of Iraq, the Bush Administration asserted that Iraq possessed massive stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction and that it was capable of launching an attack – nuclear, chemical and biological – on the US within 45 minutes.

President Bush said that the US had to attack immediately, and could not “wait for the final proof — the smoking gun — that could come in the form of a mushroom cloud.” We all know now that this propaganda campaign was a complete fabrication created to justify a war of aggression.

Now in the Obama Administration, we see reports that are all too similar being made to justify military action against the people of Iran. Taking Iran to the UN Security Council is a prelude for unilateral action. Just as in the case of Iraq, none of the claims made by the US government stand up to unbiased scrutiny. Iran has submitted to the most intrusive and humiliating inspections, above and beyond what is required by Nuclear Weapons Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT). None of the inspections have found any evidence that Iran is developing a nuclear weapons program.

There is only one government that has used nuclear weapons against civilian populations, and that same nation has the largest stockpile of weapons of mass destruction on the planet. Most dangerous and incredible it is at this very moment developing a new generation of tactical nuclear weapons that it intends to use, not merely to threaten. That country is, of course, the United States. Shouldn’t any real discussion of the dangers of nuclear weapons include the weapons stockpiled by the Pentagon and the history of US aggression and interventions?

Iran has suffered greatly at the hands of the US We recall the US overthrew the democratically elected government of Dr. M. Mossadegh and returned the Shah to the Peacock Throne — ‘the proudest achievement of the CIA’. For 25 years the Shah ruled Iran with an iron fist for the benefit of US oil corporations before the people of Iran, in the millions, overthrew his tyranny at a terrible cost in lives. For the past 27 years US sanctions have impeded Iran’s right to development and brought great suffering to the people.

It is essential that all voices opposed to the devastation of a new war in the Middle East speak out now. I urge an immediate end to Washington’s campaign of sanctions, hostility, and falsehood against the people of Iran. I oppose any new US aggression against Iran. We need funds for human needs, not endless war for empire.

Sincerely,
