WASHINGTON, DC (March 7, 2013) — Today, the Senate Judiciary Committee will vote on multiple measures to reduce gun violence, including a ban on military-style assault weapons — like the gun used in Newtown.1

These are the first major Senate votes on gun violence prevention since Newtown. There has been nonstop organizing since December, and now it’s time for senators to vote for commonsense reform. If the bills pass the committee vote, Majority Leader Harry Reid has said they will get a full Senate one quickly.2

That’s why it’s so important that all of us who have already taken action against gun violence get our to call the members of the Judiciary Committee before the vote. It’s critical that the last voice these senators hear before casting their vote is from you — or someone you know — demanding that they vote to ban these dangerous weapons.

Many politicians have waxed poetic about reducing gun violence this year. But their words are irrelevant — it’s their votes that matter. This is a critical moment of accountability for senators on this committee.

A victory tomorrow will build momentum for more policies to prevent gun violence. Your phone call, and the phone calls from the people you recruit, could convince waffling committee members to vote for less violence.

Thanks for all you do.
