ACTION ALERT: A Plan to Help Syrian Refugees
United to End Genocide

(October 26, 2015) — What can the United States be doing to address the largest humanitarian crisis of our time? With Syria and its people trapped between Assad’s bombs and the terrorism of ISIS, this has been a difficult question to answer. But now, there is a clear step that the United States can take and you can help.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) just introduced a bill calling for emergency funding for the proper screening and increased staff needed to make sure the United States can safely and smartly respond to the Syrian refugee crisis and provide a temporary home for those fleeing the horror.

And by letting your Senator know you support the efforts needed to screen and resettle refugees, you’ll be making a difference for the men, women and children fleeing persecution and violence in Syria.

Instead of focusing on how to help solve the refugee crisis, the debate about Syrian refugees has descended into one feeding xenophobia, fear and isolation. There aren’t enough people fighting back, but Senators Graham and Leahy are:
“I don’t see how we can lead the free world and turn our back when people are seeking it. We should take the Statue of Liberty and tear it down if this is our response as a nation.”
— Sen. Lindsey Graham

Their bill provides the rapid response needed, asking the Senate to immediately consider emergency funding to provide humanitarian relief to Syrian refugees and to increase the capacity for refugee admissions to the United States.

We know from experience that Congress will only act if they know that there are Americans who care. That’s why it’s imperative that Senators on Capitol Hill hear the voices of us who are calling for our nation to be at our best and to help the people of Syria.

We can’t let the shrill voices of politicians who are fanning the flames of fear and intolerance prevail. I’m counting on you to lend your voice to help the people of Syria.

Tell the Senate, Accept More Syrian Refugees

Trapped between Assad’s bombs and the terrorism of ISIS, there’s been few signs of hope for the people of Syria. But a group of Senators are working to change that and they need our help. Congress will only act if they know there are Americans who care. That’s why it’s critical your voice is heard.

Support the “Middle East Refugee Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act”

Dear [Senator],

I am writing to urge your support for the “Middle East Refugee Emergency Supplemental Appropriations Act” (S.2145). The bill calls for emergency funding for the proper screening and increased staff needed to make sure the United States can safely and smartly respond to the Syrian refugee crisis and provide a temporary home for those fleeing the horror.

With an estimated 4 million Syrians who have fled their country, this is an extraordinary crisis that requires an exceptional response and strong US leadership.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) and Patrick Leahy (D-VT) are showing that leadership. And I hope that you will join them in supporting this legislation aimed at helping address the worst refugee crisis since World War II.

Our country did not cause the refugee crisis. But that doesn’t mean that we can’t help those who need us most. Thank you for standing with those who have escaped the horror in Syria today.

Thank you for lending your voice to help the people of Syria.

PS — Apologies to those of you in the District of Colombia who won’t be able to sign this petition.
