Remembering Songwriter, Singer and Activist, Vic Sadot

BERKELEY, Calif. (October 8, 2018) — Our beloved, longtime BFUU community member and former Social Justice Committee chair, Vic Sadot, passed away over the weekend.
He was an ardent truth teller, a giant of an activist who defended his values and beliefs with admirable passion, a very fine musician and songwriter, and a dear friend. His life will be celebrated at 5:30 this Saturday in the Community Room at Redwood Gardens, 2951 Derby St. in southeast Berkeley.

The world lost a man dedicated to peace and telling the truths he saw –Vic Sadot, a musician from Delaware and a Green. You can still find his truths by Googling Truth Troubadour or at this page.
One of Vic’s great gifts was to celebrate and carry on the legacy of Phil Ochs, the main anti-war singer/songwriter of the Vietnam War era. Phil Ochs had more than 70 songs published in Broadside, the National Topical Song Magazine. Here is Vic’s salute to his fellow “broadside balladeer.”

Just when our government saw one of its darkest days, confirming just about the worst possible person to the Supreme Court — then we lose Vic, the man who would sing out for peace & Justice.
2018 has been one of the worst years our country has ever faced. Vic Sadot wrote “Rude Awakening,” as a strong message of hope in 1984, to remind us we’ve got to speak out against tyranny. Now, more than ever. Peace & Justice to you, Vic.
Vic always shared his political views with the audience. Whether you agreed with him or not, for sure you knew you were regarding someone who was sincerely trying to make a difference. Rest easy, Vic.
