Many Ukrainians Want Peace, Not War, With Russia

Dr. Yurii Sheliazhenko / BreakThrough News

(February 4, 2022) — As the United States escalates the conflict with Russia over Ukraine and NATO expansion, what do Ukrainians want? Mainstream US media has profiled a few Ukrainians in lockstep with the US, but what about those who don’t want to live in a warzone? Dr. Yurii Sheliazhenko, executive secretary of the peace organization Ukrainian Pacifist Movement, outlines the demands for peace and diplomacy.

Western/Eastern Europe
Divided over Biden’s Ukraine Response

Biden sent troops to Russia and Ukraine’s neighbors yesterday — Romania, Poland, and Germany — potentially escalating the conflict with Russia.

Germany has refused to send weapons to Ukraine, angering the United States.

To hear a German progressive viewpoint on the conflict, and why Germans are against sending weapons to Ukraine, Reiner Braun, executive director of the International Peace Bureau & German activist, joins the show.

Yurii Sheliazhenko is Executive secretary of the Ukrainian Pacifist Movement, a Board member of the European Bureau for Conscientious Objection (Brussels, Belgium), a member of the Board of Directors of World BEYOND War (Charlottesville, VA, United States), and holds a Ph.D. (Law), LL.M., B.Math, Master of Mediation and Conflict Management
