ACTION ALERT: Spare Yemen — Tell Biden to Stop Arming the Saudis

February 11th, 2022 - by Win Without War

ACTION ALERT: Tell President Biden:
Don’t Designate Houthis as Terrorists!

President Biden is considering reinstating one of Donald Trump’s deadliest Yemen policies — that could leave many in Yemen unable to access basic supplies like food or medicine. He’s being pushed by foreign governments and special interests, and we may have just a few days to get him to listen to humanitarians and pro-peace activists instead.

The horrific Saudi- and UAE-led war in Yemen has gone on for nearly seven years, fueled in part by the flow of US weapons and political support to Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and their allies.

Upon taking office, President Biden gave us hope that a new approach was underway. He reiterated his commitment to ending the war in Yemen and reversed Donald Trump’s terrible decision to designate the Houthis as a foreign terrorist organization (FTO) — a designation which, in effect, risked halting imports of food and other life-saving aid to Yemen. With millions at risk of famine and starvation already from a Saudi blockade, Trump’s FTO designation was a death sentence.

Unfortunately, Washington’s pro-war lobby never rests, and we’re now hearing that Trump’s FTO designation is back on the table within the Biden administration. Joe Biden listened to us once before, so now we’ve got to make our voices heard again to stop the White House from making this deadly mistake.

ACTION: Sign our petition to tell President Biden not to reinstate Trump’s deadly decision.

Is Joe Biden Going to Listen to Trump or You?

President Biden is considering reinstating one of Donald Trump’s deadliest Yemen policies — that could leave many in Yemen unable to access basic supplies like food and medicine. He’s being pushed by foreign governments and special interests, and we may have just a few days to get him to listen to humanitarians and pro-peace activists instead. Will you help?

It’s time to take action: Sign our petition and tell President Biden not to reinstate Trump’s deadly Houthi decision.

Throughout the war in Yemen, all parties have committed horrific war crimes, and genuine accountability is truly needed. Unfortunately, Trump’s decision to designate the Houthis as terrorists while Saudi and Emirati governments with unprecedented arms sales only increased Yemeni suffering while prolonging the war.

President Biden was right to rescind Trump’s deadly designation — for him to backpedal on his pledge now would be the kind of broken promise that rings on through history. Since news broke that this is under consideration, 20 humanitarian aid organizations operating in Yemen have called on the administration to avoid this deadly mistake.

With at least 5 million people on the brink of famine, and another 16 million “marching toward starvation,” this conflict has already created a crisis that’s impact will persist for generations. As food rations and medical supplies dwindle and fears of another deadly blockade grow, it’s up to President Biden to choose what role the US will play in this story: he can choose to be a catalyst for peace, moving our country closer to the right side of history, or to double-down on Trump’s belligerent approach whose tragic outcomes we are already witnessing.

For years, activists have been fighting for peace in Yemen. We’ve shown up to stop arms sales, cut off US support in the war, and to do everything possible to save lives. Now it’s time to once again make our voices heard and drown out the special interests pushing for more death and more war. Let’s make sure that President Biden hears us and rejects this push to go back to Trump’s deadly decisions.

Thank you for working for peace,
