Russian TV Viewers Told ‘We’ll All Die Someday.’ The West Dimisses Such Talk as “Bluster”

(May 2022) — A state broadcaster has made the chilling prediction that Russian despot Vladimir Putin will launch an all-out nuclear war on the West before accepting defeat in Ukraine. Margarita Simonyan, editor of state broadcaster RT and one of the Kremlin’s main propagandists said: “Either we lose in Ukraine or the Third World War starts.”

But in a bizarre attempt to rationalize this horrific outcome, she reasoned death is inevitable anyway. Simonyan continued: “The most incredible outcome — that all this will end with a nuclear strike — seems more probable to me than the other course of events.

“This is to my horror on one hand but on the other hand, it is what it is. This isn’t the first time threats of nuclear war have been issued from the Kremlin with fellow propagandist Vladimir Solovyov, foreign minister Sergei Lavrov, and Putin himself making them.”

So far, the US and UK have dismissed such rhetoric as bluster but with the threats coming more frequent there are fears a nuclear standoff is on the horizon before the Ukraine-Russia war ends. Russian foreign secretary spokeswoman Maria Zakharova suggested that military strikes could be authorised against NATO states that provide arms to Ukraine, delivering a stern warning after the UK-backed Ukrainian strikes on Russia.

Zakharova released a statement naming Britain as one of the countries enabling the Ukrainian military after Britain’s Armed Forces minister James Heappey said the UK backed Ukraine’s air strikes on Russian infrastructure. Zakharova said: “Do we understand correctly that, for the sake of disrupting the logistics of military supplies, Russia can strike military targets on the territory of those NATO countries that supply arms to the Kyiv regime?

“After all, this directly leads to deaths and bloodshed on Ukrainian territory. Last week, Russia successfully launched its latest nuclear missile – the Sarmat 2 – with Putin claiming it can hit targets anywhere on Earth and cannot be stopped by missile defences.”

When Foreign Minister Lavrov was asked directly about the threat of nuclear war in a TV interview, he said: “The risks are very significant. Russia’s original plan for a days-long ‘special military operation’ was dashed in the face of staunch and well-supplied Ukrainian opposition. Ukrainian forces remain in control of most of the country 62 days later.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has signaled the possibility of escalation of the conflict. Russia has warned of the “real” threat of World War III if any other nation intervenes in Ukraine. Now, a Russian state TV host has discussed the possibility of a war expanding out of Ukraine, telling viewers that a nuclear war would be “ok” because “we are all going to die someday.”

As Russia’s President Vladimir Putin hurtled the threats of a nuclear war, saying that any country that interferes in Ukraine will be responded with “instruments… nobody else can boast of,” created a nuclear-war panic.

Awkwardly though, the Russian state television comforted the citizens by normalizing the prospect of nuclear warfare, saying “we’re all going to die someday.” On one such television show titled The Evening With Vladimir Solovyov that discussed Putin’s “inevitable” nuclear war, host Vladimir Solovyov hurtled the nuclear war rhetoric, saying that to deter the other countries from interfering in Russia’s special military operation a nuclear war is a “possibility.”

“Personally, I think that the most realistic way is the way of World War III, based on knowing us and our leader, Vladimir Vladimirovich Putin,” Simonyan said according to The Daily Beast, “knowing how everything works around here, it’s impossible — there is no chance — that we will give up,” he said.
