Keep Space for Peace Week
The Global Network Against Weapons and Nuclear Power in Space
Every October the Global Network calls for worldwide actions to support “Keep Space for Peace Week.” In 1999, the United Nations General Assembly declared that October 4-10 every year would be designated as ‘World Space Week’ to “celebrate the contributions of space science and technology to the betterment of the human condition.” We ask that people recognise this as a time to Keep Space for Peace.
Dangers to Space & Earth
- Cyber warfare and Space Force
- Nuclearization
- NATO moving into space
- Space Debris
- Environmental impacts from space launches
There are many grave dangers to space. There can’t be an easy separation between space and Earth.
The launch of tens of thousands of 5G satellites (which have major military applications) are worsening the debris and already crowded orbits.
The nuclear industry and NASA will soon begin testing nuclear reactor rocket engines just over our heads in Lower Earth Orbit (LEO). What could possibly go wrong?
US and NATO are preparing to claim they are the guardians of ‘freedom of navigation’ in space.
We must call upon our collective governments around the world to stop funding the militarization and nuclearization of space. We must protect our common security if we hope to survive.
The space industry is flying blind — blinded by its devotion to profit and power.
Now is the time for us to gather internationally and call for protection of the space environment from greed, pollution and war. Join us by organizing a local public event in your community during Keep Space for Peace Week.
