Preparing for Nuclear Ban Treaty Day
On January 22, 2023

Felice Cohen-Joppa / The Nuclear Resister

(January 6, 2023) — It’s happening!

Plans are being made across the country to celebrate the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons on the 2nd anniversary of its entry into force — January 22, 2023 is NUCLEAR BAN TREATY DAY!

We want to share resources, ideas, media tips and more in preparation for the big day.

Join us for an organizing zoom on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 7:00pmEastern; 6:00pmCentral; 5:00pmMountain; and 4:00pm Pacific. You will need to register here to get the link:

Raising the Treaty’s profile in the United States will require serious and sustained work to build a movement—including grassroots efforts—by all of us!

President Biden has denounced the Treaty and threatened allies who have indicated an interest in it. Why is the government so frightened? Because they know the Treaty has the power to end nuclear weapons forever.

On the January 10 zoom, you will hear about plans to introduce a bill in Congress in support of the Ban Treaty, and you’ll hear about the latest plans to promote the 2023 Doomsday Clock announcement (on January 24). We’ll get media tips from experts. And you can also share what you are doing.

Don’t have plans yet? It’s not too late! You can visit now to find the resources we have put together to help with making plans. There are templates for banners, signs, and posters; a sample media release; resources for writing letters to the editor; and lots more! You will find suggestions for groups and for individuals. Everyone can do something significant on January 22!

Please join us on January 10 to add your weight to this effort to bend the arc of the moral universe toward peace!
