ACTION: Join the Anti-Militarism Hub at the
UN’s “Climate Ambition Summit” NYC March
CODEPINK

Join CODEPINK at the anti-militarism hub in the streets of New York City on September 17 for the March to End Fossil Fuels! This march aims to bring thousands to the streets to coincide with and support UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres’ “Climate Ambition Summit.”

We know that for real “climate ambition” to take place, we must address the largest institutional greenhouse-gas polluter in the world — the US Pentagon.

This summer of record-breaking heatwaves and toxic wildfire smoke makes it clear: pollution from oil, gas, and coal is deadly.

We can’t breathe or play outside. Our families are forced to evacuate as our homes are swept away by floods, burned down in mega-fires, or destroyed in hurricanes. Our water is too polluted to drink. Wild and beautiful places are disappearing, and creatures big and small are dying. Our democracy is under threat from the corrupting influence of fossil fuel money in politics.

Fossil fuel pollution impacts us all — and Indigenous, Black, communities with low incomes and communities of color disproportionately bear the brunt of the harm, with deadly consequences like asthma and cancer.

But it doesn’t have to be this way.

September 21: The International Day of Peace
There is a series of actions and events leading up to and following the March (including some events we’re planning on September 21, the International Day of Peace).

ACTION: If you can attend, Please fill out this form with your availability so we can plan accordingly!

We know that fossil fuels have been — and continue to be — a primary reason for many of the wars over the last century. We also know that a just transition to clean renewable energy and environmental, social and economic justice for low-income people and communities of color are essential to world peace.

Join the Pro-peace Parade
An Anti-Militarism Hub has been formed that brings together a number of peace and justice and climate groups. We will be marching together with our banners, signs and props on September 17. We are supporting the march’s overall demands, as well as these:

  • Cut the Pentagon budget by at least $100 billion and shift the savings to Green New Deal, environmental justice and human needs programs each year going forward.
  • Report military emissions: The US and all nations must acknowledge and report greenhouse gas emissions from military operations and weapons production.
  • Reduce US military emissions 50% by 2030, the Biden Administration’s stated goal for all US emissions.
  • Prevent nuclear war, prevent climate meltdown.
  • The US must sign the Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons.

Current location: 54th and Broadway: 8:30am – 1:00pm (PDT). Meeting time is at 1130AM, marching starts at 1pm.
