ACTION ALERT: Nonviolence Action Days: September 21-October 2

September 24th, 2023 - by Pace e Bene & The Climate Reality Project

International Day of Peace to the International Day of Nonviolence

Action for a Culture of Peace, Active Nonviolence,
Freedom from War, Poverty and Environmental Loss
Pace e Bene Nonviolence Service

(September 21, 2023) — From Sept 21 to Oct 2, 2023, (International Day of Peace to International Day of Nonviolence), join tens of thousands of people in calling for a culture rooted in nonviolence. For 10 years, Campaign Nonviolence has organized an unprecedented movement for a culture of peace and active nonviolence.

Last year, people held over 4,600 actions, events and marches across the USA and in 20 countries. Over 60,000 people participated in these events.

In 2023, in addition to our usual practice of welcoming your events and ideas for actions, we’re inviting you to participate in specific calls-to-action.
• Engage friends in acts of kindness and mutual aid.
• Call upon banks to divest from violence.
• Offer a teach-in on nonviolence.
• Hold a racial healing circle.
• Train your community in ways to end violence.
• Sound the alarm for climate action.

This year’s Campaign Nonviolence calls-to-action have something everyone can do.

You Can Organize in Several Ways

  • Organize your own action to build a culture of peace and active nonviolence, free from war, poverty, racism, and environmental destruction. Just tell us the details and we’ll add you to the Action Days list.
  • Sign-up for one or more of our specific calls-to-action. The actions have been chosen to balance constructive program, healing work, direct action, and protests. You can join actions on Sept 21st (International Day of Peace) and Oct 2nd (Int’l Day of Nonviolence). You can also choose a call-to-action that can be done any time between those dates. You pick a date that works best for you and your group, while still feeling the solidarity of others taking action in similar ways. Learn more about these in our toolkit.

Local groups are encouraged to pick 1-3 actions. (We don’t expect you to do ALL of these!)

We especially encourage everyone to plan a local Campaign Nonviolence March uplifting the vision of a world beyond violence and a culture rooted in nonviolence. Reach out to all your local groups and invite them to join in. Bring together the many issues, movements, and efforts working to end violence and advance nonviolent solutions.

Local Campaign Nonviolence organizers can promote participation by inviting local chapters of other organizations to take the lead in planning a local action that relates to their specific focus and mission. For example, you can reach out to climate justice groups to take action to Sound the Alarm, or invite anti-poverty groups to help coordinate mutual aid actions.

Here’s what we’re working on — click to learn more about each call to action and get the Action Days Toolkit here.

ACTION ALERT: End the Fossil Fuel Subsidies
Tell G20: End the $1 Trillion Fossil Fuel Handouts
The Climate Reality Project

(September 2023) — There’s no secret to stopping global warming: Stop burning fossil fuels. But instead of speeding the just clean energy transition we need, governments gave away an estimated $1.3 trillion in handouts to the fossil fuel industry destroying our climate in 2022 alone.

That’s $1.3 trillion of our money. To some of the richest companies on Earth. To
pollute our atmosphere and steal our future. We can do better.

That’s why we’re calling on leaders of the G20 group of major economies to end the giveaways to fossil fuel companies making billions in profit driving climate devastation. Not in months or years. Now.

Because we can burn fossil fuels. Or we can protect our planet. But we can’t do both.
