ACTION ALERT:
Tell Biden to Cut the Pentagon Budget
Rep. Rashida Talaib / ActionNetwork & Win Without War

(January 26, 2024) — Instead of listening to the majority of people around our country and the world demanding a ceasefire in Palestine, the Biden administration is escalating violence — including bombing Yemen multiple times.

For decades, the US government has spent more on weapons and war than any other country on earth. And it didn’t make anyone, anywhere, any safer.

This year’s Pentagon budget is the largest ever in the history of our country: $886 billion.

How can we justify this spending while our neighbors are struggling to access healthcare, feed their families, and afford housing? Meanwhile, billions of our tax dollars go to Israel’s military as it cuts off Palestinians’ water, food, housing, and healthcare.

In the next few weeks, the President’s budget proposal for next year is due. He needs to hear from us.

ACTION: Tell Biden to Cut the Pentagon Budget. More Wars Are Not the Way

We can’t let the funding for wars and bombs go up again this year while we keep neglecting the needs of our struggling communities at home.

Year after year, my colleagues in Washington tell us that there’s no money for lifesaving programs to address hunger or poverty, only to turn around and pass another record-breaking military budget to fund bombs, weapons, and war crimes.

Thank you. I will continue to advocate for marginalized communities and working families, for a ceasefire and diplomacy, and for freedom and dignity for all people.

In solidarity,
Rashida

More Weapons and War Aren’t the Way
The president is putting the final touches on next year’s budget now, and with global tensions on a razor’s edge, “security” is certain to be a top priority. But for decades, the US government has spent more on weapons and war than any other country on earth — and it didn’t make anyone, anywhere, any safer.

It’s time to rethink this broken approach. This year, we could pour even more bombs and bullets into a world where violence is increasing by the second — unless activists like you speak up to demand something different.

This moment marks the start of a legislative marathon to press the White House and Congress to reject the misguided notion that BILLIONS for weapons and war are the only way to keep us safe and help us thrive.
The President’s budget proposal is due in the next few weeks and that means the clock is already ticking. To influence policymakers in the White House and make a real impact, the time to act is NOW.

Budgets are moral documents that should reflect our values and priorities. Can you call on President Biden to invest in human needs and cut the Pentagon budget now?

To President Biden:

We’re witnessing the catastrophic fallout of a military-first approach: endless wars, global instability, and blatant neglect of pressing domestic issues. It’s a cycle of destruction, not defense. I urge you to cut funding for the Pentagon budget in the President’s Budget for Fiscal Year 2025.

Signed,

s
