Next Steps for #CloseBases Campaign
World BEYOND War & Day to Close Bases

(April 30, 2025) – On February 23 and surrounding days, individuals and organizations around the world took coordinated action in their communities to call for the closure of all military bases as part of the Global Day of Action to Close Bases. Details about plans for the day, participants, motivations, and goals are at DayToCloseBases.org

Over 60 events took place in Australia, Brazil, Cameroon, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Denmark, Ecuador, England, Finland, Germany, Guam, Ireland, Japan, Lithuania, Mexico, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Scotland, South Korea, Sweden, United States, Venezuela, Wales, plus online events from Argentina, Bolivia, and Italy. Below is a sampling of reports, videos, and photos from a variety of locations.

Over 70 organizations endorsed.

The day of action also inspired or was supported by various online events and media reports, including this podcast about bases in Germany, this webinar and these media reports about bases in Latin America, this protest the previous week at the launching of a missile from a base in California, and this new petition to the Prime Minister of Mauritius.

Save the Date for the
Global Day of Media Action to
CloseBases on July 14, 2025

(April 30, 2025) — In February, we came together in powerful solidarity across six continents for the Global Day of Action to #CloseBases, with actions taking place at military sites in all corners of the world. From Okinawa to Sweden, Colombia to Cameroon, people stood up to say: these bases must go. Thank you for being one of 72 organizations worldwide that endorsed the day of action.

Now, we’re preparing for the next wave of global action, the Global Day of Media Action to #CloseBases on July 14 (so save the date!), and we need your help. We’re collecting stories, videos, photos, and articles that show how military bases are impacting your community, your environment, and your life. Your voice is powerful, and your story can help build momentum for real change.

Need inspiration? Check out our Top 5 Reasons to Close Bases. It’s a great resource to help shape your message, whether you’re creating a video, writing a testimony, or sharing photos. You can contribute in a few different ways. Choose the format that works best for you!

How to Submit a Video
We’re especially looking for short videos (1–2 minutes) to feature on social media, our website, and during upcoming actions. No fancy equipment is needed, just your voice and your story. Video Tips:
* Keep it short and personal, 1 to 2 minutes is ideal.

* Speak clearly and from the heart. Tell us: How is the military base affecting your life or your community? What do you want the world to know?

* Film horizontally (landscape mode), ideally in natural light and a quiet space.

* Smartphone videos are totally fine!

How to Submit a Written Testimony
We welcome articles (500–1000 words) for our blog and website.
Written Submission Tips:

  • Share a personal perspective: how have you, your family, or your community been impacted?
  • Be as specific as you’re comfortable. Your voice adds depth to the movement.
  • You’re welcome to reflect on or reference theTop 5 Reasons to Close Basesin your piece.

How to Submit Photos
Photos are a powerful way to tell your story, whether it’s images of a local base, protests, community gatherings, or the natural beauty threatened by militarism.

Photo Tips:
• High-resolution images are best.

  • Please include a brief caption or context for each photo (who/what/where).
  • Make sure you have permission from anyone visible in the photo, especially for sharing online.

If you’d like support — whether it’s help filming or brainstorming ideas — a member of the World BEYOND War team is happy to jump on a call with you. Just reply to this email, and we’ll connect.
