Mini-bio of our main speaker: Michael Nagler, Ph.D.
As Professor Emeritus of Classics and Comparative Literature at UC, Berkeley, Michael Nagler co-founded the Peace and Conflict Studies Program. He was the recipient of the Jamnalal Bajaj International Award for “Promoting Gandhian Values Outside India” in 2007. He co-founded the Metta Center for Nonviolence in 1983 and continues to dedicate his life to the values of meditation, spirituality and nonviolence with a particular appreciation for the role of science (as the son of a biology teacher).
He is co-host of Nonviolence Radio, a popular radio show and podcast for nonviolence exploration and a sought-after speaker for academic and other audiences. His books include The Search for a Nonviolent Future: A Promise of Peace for Ourselves, Our Families, and Our World; The Nonviolence Handbook: A Guide for Practical Action; Looking for Light; and The Third Harmony: Nonviolence and the New Story of Human Nature. Most recently, he directed and produced a documentary with that title.
