Trump Threat Watch: Tell Congress:
“No War on Cuba!”
Win Without War / ActionNetwork
(April 21, 2026) — The people of Cuba have been pushed to the brink of collapse amidst an illegal U.S. oil embargo that has caused mass suffering — energy blackouts, food shortages, and water scarcity. [1]
The humanitarian crisis stands to get even worse as Trump warns that “Cuba is next.” [2] His threats to “take” Cuba and push its president out of power echo the violent, regime-change campaigns we’ve seen his administration carry out in Venezuela and Iran this year. And reports are emerging that he’s ordered the Pentagon to draw up war plans for the island nation.[3]
This illegal campaign of collective punishment against the population of Cuba is only hurting the people that Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio claim to help, and any act of war will only deepen the suffering.
It’s not too late to stop this crisis and prevent more war, Gar. Congress can pass a war powers resolution to block strikes before they begin, AND usher in a new era of diplomacy by ending U.S. embargos on Cuba, turning the page on six decades of a failed strategy that has delivered nothing but pain and suffering to the Cuban people. A different path is possible, but only if we advocate for it, which is why we need you to speak out today.
From Iran to Venezuela to Cuba, and beyond, DC decision-makers have long (and wrongly) assumed that broad economic sanctions will inflict such pain on a country’s population that its people will rise up and overthrow their government. The reality of the U.S. blockade has been far more grim: hospitals limiting surgeries, garbage piling up in the streets, and children going hungry.
Cubans should decide their own future, but they won’t be able to if Trump and Rubio deepen their suffering as a means to an end.
People in Cuba have survived amidst this man-made crisis for more than 60 years as part of this failed strategy, a strategy that has done little to fulfill the regime change goals the U.S. government has long wished to achieve.
Yet, the Trump administration threatens to use the full might of the U.S. military to force its will on people while blocking food, medicine, and other basic necessities through blockades and embargoes.
As Trump threatens hostile, violent action against the Cuban government, Cuba’s humanitarian catastrophe deepens. But while it might not make the headlines that are dominated by Trump’s current illegal war on Iran, we can’t look away.
Sen. Kaine’s war powers resolution to prevent strikes on Cuba is expected to come up for a vote soon, and we need to build up as much momentum as we can on Capitol Hill to prevent war and alleviate the humanitarian crisis. Can we count on you to join us?
The U.S. government is complicit in this suffering, which means we have agency to push for change. We are the people who don’t look away — whether in Iran, Gaza, Cuba, or beyond — and we need to speak out in full force before this humanitarian crisis grows even more dire.
