ACTION ALERT: The #1 Most
Corrupt Thing Trump’s Ever Done
The Intercept

(May 22, 2026) — On Monday, the Trump administration announced a $1.8 billion taxpayer-funded slush fund to be paid out to January 6 rioters, MAGA grifters, and other Trump allies who claim to be victims of political persecution.

The fund will be controlled by a group of five people who Trump can fire anytime for any reason, and they don’t even have to report publicly where the money goes.

It very well may be the most flagrantly corrupt thing Donald Trump — or any U.S. president — has ever attempted.

However, Trump’s slush fund can still be stopped. Legislation has already been introduced in Congress to block it, and Republicans in both the House and Senate are speaking out against it.

This is where the high-impact investigative journalism of The Intercept can make all the difference. We’re launching an urgent investigation to follow the money. We’re working to uncover how the money will be distributed, who will receive it and what legal avenues may exist to stop it. But as a nonprofit news outlet, we rely on your support to help fund everything we

Trump’s so-called “anti-weaponization fund” results from a lawsuit Trump personally filed against his own IRS after his tax returns were leaked to the press in 2019.

The slush fund money would come directly from the Treasury Department’s Judgment Fund, which is typically used to pay legally reached settlements and court judgments. But in this case, a commission picked by Trump’s attorney general will apparently hand out payments as it pleases.

No specific recipients have been named yet, but beneficiaries could include Proud Boys and other January 6 Capitol rioters, many of whom have since been pardoned by Trump and would now be able to cash in — and continue committing crimes on the president’s behalf.

The American people need to know exactly where every dime of that money will go, and The Intercept is among the few news outlets with the reporting chops, courage and independence to even begin to undertake an investigation of this scope.
