ACTION ALERT:
Free Palestinian Doctor Tortured in Israeli Prison
MPower Action
(July 12, 2026) — Israel has imprisoned Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya for over 18 months without charges. His Israeli captors have beaten and tortured him, and denied him medical care. Now, his lawyer fears that he’s facing imminent death.1
Israel targeted Dr. Abu Safiya because he was providing medical care in Gaza to people Israel was trying to murder in its genocide of Palestinians. When his lawyer last visited him on July 2nd, Dr. Abu Safiya said, “This is the last time you’ll see me… they brought me here to kill me.”2
Our lawmakers in Congress must loudly advocate for the immediate release of Dr. Abu Safiya to safety and an end to the horrific abuses in Israeli prisons.
Five Israeli prison guards severely beat Dr. Abu Safiya with batons and hammers, leaving him with injuries that made him unrecognizable to his lawyer.3
International headlines are calling attention to Dr. Abu Safiya’s case and the urgency of his situation.
Our lawmakers can’t ignore these headlines, the brutal treatment of innocent Palestinian doctors by an Israeli government supported by U.S. tax dollars, and a wave of constituent advocacy calling on them to side with justice over genocide.
The U.S. government has provided tens of billions of dollars in funding and weapons to Israel since the genocide in Gaza, allowing the IDF to continue committing atrocities in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Iran. Our lawmakers must change course — in this moment, it’s urgent that they demand Israel end the torture of Palestinian doctors and free Dr. Abu Safiya.
In solidarity,
Yasmine, Granate, Aydin, and the team at MPower Action
