(July 14, 2026) — In April, leaders gathered in Santa Marta, Colombia, for a critical test of integrity. It was the deadline for the Coalition on Phasing Out Fossil Fuel Incentives Including Subsidies (COFFIS) to prove their promises weren’t just talk.
So far, those promises still haven’t turned into action.
Back in 2023, a coalition of nations pledged to cut fossil fuel subsidies and publish transparent action plans showing how they’ll do it. But as of 2025, only one government has published a roadmap to phase out fossil fuel subsidies.
While these nations delay climate action, the world pours over $1 trillion USD annually into propping up fossil fuels.
This money fuels climate disasters, enriches some of the wealthiest companies on Earth, and leaves all of us vulnerable to rising energy costs.
Sign our open letter to COFFIS member countries: Stop stalling and start leading to end fossil fuel subsidies and invest in affordable, abundant clean energy.
Join us in calling for:
- NO to further delays in publishing annual fossil fuel subsidy inventories and phase-out plans. Transparency is non-negotiable.
- NO to new fossil fuel subsidies. Stop pouring public money into an industry making outrageous windfall profits while families suffer.
- YES to an immediate phase-out of exploration and production subsidies as the first step toward total elimination.
- YES to direct cash transfers and strict liability funds that actually protect vulnerable consumers, rather than propping up dirty energy.
- YES to windfall taxes on the fossil fuel industry to fund a socially-just transition and energy sovereignty.
