ACTION ALERT: Stop AI Data Centers on Military Bases
LeeAnn Hall / National Campaign for Justice

(August 6, 2026) — Noise pollution. Light pollution. Huge demands for water, and electrical bills through the roof. This isn’t a hypothetical — it’s Tuesday for families living near AI data centers.

No wonder 63% of Americans oppose having one built in their community.

Now that same fight is about to land on federal soil. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth wants billions more for data centers built on military bases and public lands to power AI-driven warfare — including systems making life-or-death calls on the battlefield.

Do we really want life-or-death calls, made faster, by machines? And all made possible by infrastructure Americans are already rejecting in their own backyards?

There is a way to stop it. Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s No AI Data Centers on Federal Lands Act would ban data centers — and everything that comes with them — from land the federal government owns or manages, including military bases.

The question for every lawmaker: Protect communities, or protect Big Tech?

ACTION: No AI Data Centers on Federal Land.

Families near existing data centers are already experiencing the smog in their lungs, and bills they can’t outrun. Public lands belong to all of us. Not to a handful of billionaires racing to win an unregulated AI arms race.

And now the Pentagon wants to double down on the same strains on resources, raising the same community backlash — only this time, stamped “national security.”

Don’t Let Our Public Lands Become Sacrifice Zones
Congress has a choice: They can rubber-stamp the runaway costs, or they can draw a line.

Destructive data centers could soon be popping up on federal lands and military bases across the country if the Pentagon gets its way. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth is demanding billions of dollars for data centers that will supercharge AI-powered warfare and help fuel software used to make life-or-death decisions.

We need to act now. Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s No AI Data Centers on Federal Lands Act would BAN data centers and associated infrastructure on land owned or managed by the U.S. government, including on military bases.

Public lands should not be turned into sacrifice zones for an AI arms race. Rep. Tlaib’s bill is a necessary safeguard, and we need to push every lawmaker to go on the record: Will you protect communities from being forced to shoulder the energy, water, pollution, and infrastructure costs that data centers bring? Or will you join with Big Tech to accelerate AI-powered warfare?

As Rep. Tlaib said upon introduction of the bill:
“Our residents are choking on smog and already paying too much for their utility bills, yet the Trump administration wants to place heavier cost burdens on the shoulders of hardworking Americans. Our corrupt, AI-addicted President cannot be allowed to sacrifice our federal lands so that Big Tech oligarchs can get richer.”

And, as Shayna Lewis from Win Without War said:
“Public lands should not be turned into sacrifice zones for the AI arms race.”
