(August 17, 2026) — Amidst thousands of bombs dropped on Lebanon, violence in the West Bank, and a continuing genocide in Gaza, the very LAST thing the U.S. should be doing right now is deepening a relationship with the Israeli military.

Yet right now, a one-of-a-kind provision that would give the Israeli government unprecedented leverage over the Pentagon’s priorities — with fewer transparency requirements and more access to U.S. military technology — is quickly and quietly advancing through Congress.

But here’s where it gets interesting: We’ve helped build historic opposition to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), an annual bill that typically passes with broad bipartisan support. The stage is set for a once-in-a-generation legislative fight.

New reports reveal that at least 300 children have been killed in Gaza since a “ceasefire” was announced 300 days ago. Meanwhile, Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu just publicly rejected another plan to meet his government’s commitment to withdraw forces from Gaza.

This violence is intolerable — and the latest Quinnipiac polling shows a record-breaking 48% of Americans now believe the U.S. is too supportive of the Israeli government.

People across the country want to END an era of impunity for PM Netanyahu’s government. But as Congress moves to deepen U.S. complicity in the Israeli government’s violence, it’s clear too many lawmakers have missed the memo.

If passed, the “U.S.-Israel Defense Technology Cooperation Initiative” would dramatically expand joint U.S.-Israeli defense projects and deepen cooperation on weapons, technology, and military capabilities, all while sidestepping the public transparency requirements that apply to traditional security assistance. Experts predict that there’s no turning back once this provision becomes law.

Fortunately, key lawmakers are starting to listen, and bipartisan opposition is mounting. 212 representatives pushed the House’s version of the NDAA to the brink earlier this summer. A filibuster-proof majority of senators have held up their version of the bill due to concerns.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) has noted the Israeli government’s violence is “not aligned” with U.S. national security objectives. “Codifying the integration of our military technology and supply chains with those of any other country is dangerous,” added Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY).
