(October 3, 2026) — Mounting evidence of U.S. war crimes, thousands dead, an entire region on edge, a deepening global economic crisis — and there’s STILL no end to Trump’s illegal war in sight.

In fact, it’s terrifyingly likely to get worse: News broke this week that another U.S. carrier, along with roughly 10,000 troops, is already on the way to the Middle East.

The harm and suffering are incalculable. What’s not is the financial impact, and Moody’s Analytics Chief Economist Mark Zandi recently estimated that $230 BILLION has been borne by U.S. households alone. [1]

Your family has spent roughly $1,760 extra because of Trump’s illegal war. Luckily Rep. Ro Khanna (D-CA) has a fix to get it back: The Illegal War Refund Act. This bill would require the government to calculate the war’s economic impact on U.S. taxpayers, CUT the Pentagon budget by that amount, and then send those funds back to our families.

With outrage over Trump’s war and its unconscionable costs growing, this groundbreaking bill could be a crucial step toward getting our priorities back in order. It all comes down to a simple question: Who needs $1,760 more: You or Pete Hegseth’s Pentagon?

The costs of Trump’s war have always been too much to bear, but after months of disaster now even Republicans in deep-red districts are calling for its end.

In Iowa, Rep. Ashley Hinson (R-IA) voted four times against ending the Iran war. Now, she’s calling for relief, saying “Iowans are being squeezed and shouldn’t have to foot the bill at the pump or the checkout line for the war in Iran. We need to use every option at our disposal to provide some relief from high prices.”[1]

People across the political spectrum are rightly furious. But what will Rep. Hinson, and other lawmakers, actually do about it?

The options are clear: Support efforts including the Illegal War Refund Act and make it clear that U.S. taxpayers should not have to bankroll a war they never approved. Or, continue to enable Trump’s illegal warmongering.

The Illegal War Refund Act is bigger than one bill. It’s how we can force a long-overdue reckoning over who to prioritize: the people or the Pentagon?

“While the wealthy and powerful profit off the war, American taxpayers should not bear the economic costs of the president’s broken promises. They deserve their money back,” said Rep. Khanna.

We couldn’t agree more. Right now, lawmakers need to hear an unequivocal message that this war needs to end, the Pentagon should answer for its waste, and people everywhere, from service-members on the USS Lincoln to families in Iran, deserve accountability.
