ACTION ALERT: Whale Bloodbath in Iceland
Ekō
(October 7, 2026) — Iceland’s waters have turned deep red with the blood of hundreds of whales — but we can prevent any further bloodbath if Minister of Industries, Hanna Katrín Friðriksson takes immediate action. She has the power to protect Iceland’s precious whale population for good.
Harpooned whales in Iceland die miserably — many require a second harpoon stab to die an agonising and slow death that can last up to two hours before they bleed out and succumb to the torture.
But the Minister wanted to wait until autumn — but now says spring 2027. She is waiting until after the whale killing season closes, to finally bring an end to this senseless killing. She could end it now, but she won’t unless we force her to. We cannot wait and watch it continue unfolding.
Iceland’s Minister knows the Icelandic public is against this — but she doesn’t know the power of our global movement. Together we can drag her inaction into the international spotlight and prove to her that the whole world wants to save Iceland’s whales. Let’s do it:
ACTION: Minister Friðriksson: Ban whale hunting — save Iceland’s whales, NOW!
There is no real reason for whale hunting in Iceland to continue. The leading whale killing company, Hvalur hf., recorded huge losses between 2012 and 2020 of around 20 million USD.
Demand for whale meat is collapsing. Meat from Iceland’s 2023 hunt still sits unsold in warehouses, and Japan, historically the sole export market for Icelandic fin whale meat, has stopped importing it as demand continues to fall.
Not a single whale should have died this summer for a practice the government itself has said it will end this autumn. But now they are side-stepping, pushing it into the next year.
Together we can help prevent the suffering of innocent whales in Iceland. With our global power, we can ramp up the pressure and force Minister Friðriksson to do what she knows is right!
ACTION: Minister Friðriksson: Ban whale hunting — save Iceland’s whales, NOW!
