The U.S. Provoked Russia in Ukraine

(October 20, 2026) — In this youtube video with Professor Glenn Diesen, German General Harald Kujat, Former Head of German Army and former Chairman of NATO’s military committee, agrees with commentators such as Jeffrey Sachs and Diesen that Russia’s invasion was provoked; that the post-2014 civil war in Ukraine violated the rights of Russian speakers in Eastern Ukraine; and that the West used the Minsk Agreements as a chance to arm Ukraine, as Angela Merkel said too. Kujat emphasizes that it’s always been an illusion that Ukraine could win the war.

Kujat says that Russia did not intend to occupy all of Ukraine but Russia did want a regime change. Now Russia’s aim has changed: it wants to occupy eastern provinces. Kujat discusses the April 2022 Istanbul agreement to end the war in Ukraine. The agreement included a guarantee of Ukraine’s permanent neutrality. There were still unresolved issues about how to guarantee security for Ukraine. There was disagreement about the allowed size of the Ukrainian armed forces. Kujat says there is no doubt that the agreement was torpedoed by the West. The decisive factor was the visit of Boris Johnson to Kiev, who told them to keep fighting.

The stated aim was to weaken Russia. So, the war is a proxy war between the U.S. and Russia. Former Israeli President Bennet said the same thing (proxy war). Early on Mark Milley said that Ukraine should negotiate. It’s hopeless for Ukraine to win the war. “In the three and a half years of this war, there has not been a single attempt by the Europeans to resolve this work peacefully.” Only Hungarian Prime Minister Orban tried, and he was harshly criticized. True peace in Ukraine requires a security agreement that satisfies all sides.

On the risk of escalation to war between Russia and the NATO or US, Kujat warns that if German Taurus missiles against Russia it would result in all-out war. But they’ve escalated multiple times before (F-16s, etc), throughout this war.
