Demand Congress Pledge to
Uphold the Midterm Election Result
LeeAnn Hall / National Campaign for Justice
(October 24, 2026) — We remember what happened after the 2020 election. Trump pressured officials to reject the outcome, and the attack on the Capitol exposed how far his supporters would go to keep him in power. Congress must confront that record with an unequivocal commitment to defend our votes.
Our right to elect our representatives is fundamental. Every community deserves the representation it voted for, and every elected official has a responsibility to protect that right, including when their own party loses.
A public pledge gives constituents a clear commitment against which to judge their elected officials’ actions. Get their names on the record now, while voters can still demand answers and before partisan pressure intensifies.
Together, we can make respecting the election results a demand that every congressional office hears before Election Day.
Donald Trump already tried to overturn an election he lost. Every member of Congress must commit now to standing against another attempt to override the voters. With the midterms approaching, we deserve to know who will defend the results when Trump demands loyalty.
Now, a bipartisan effort is underway to get that commitment in writing. Representatives Josh Gottheimer and Don Bacon are asking their House colleagues to pledge to recognize state-certified election winners and oppose attempts to block or delay them from taking office.
The concern is straightforward. If Republicans lose the House, Trump could pressure his allies to obstruct the seating of Democrats elected to replace them. Lawmakers are organizing now to head off that confrontation and put their colleagues on the record before the votes are counted.
Every member of Congress should publicly embrace this pledge. House members should sign the bipartisan letter, and senators should make the same commitment to uphold certified results. Their constituents deserve an answer before Election Day.
Sign and send a message demanding your members of Congress publicly pledge to uphold the midterm election results and oppose any attempt to block duly elected members from taking office. Congress must confront that record with an unequivocal commitment to defend our votes.
